Basse Market Expansion & Modernization Project

The Basse Market Expansion & Modernization Project is designed to enhance the region’s main marketplace by increasing vendor capacity, improving sanitation, and modernizing infrastructure. The current market is overcrowded, with many traders operating under suboptimal conditions. This project will address these issues by constructing over 200 additional vendor stalls, creating a dedicated fresh produce section, and developing a loading and unloading bay to facilitate smoother logistics.

Infrastructure improvements will include the installation of permanent roofing structures to shield traders from extreme weather, an upgraded drainage and waste disposal system to improve hygiene, and solar-powered lighting to enhance security and enable nighttime business activities. In addition to physical upgrades, BAC will establish a business support center within the market, providing traders with assistance on licensing, taxation, and financial literacy. The council will also collaborate with local banks to introduce micro-financing programs that help small-scale traders grow their businesses.

Expected Impact:

  • Increased Economic Activities: More vendors will operate in an improved business environment.
  • Improved Hygiene & Safety: Better waste management and infrastructure upgrades will create a cleaner market.
  • Better Trade Facilitation: Enhanced logistics and financial support will increase efficiency and earnings.
